Default Rest of world match for Under 1800 players

Hi all has a new Rest of world match for intermediate and beginning
players against a very enthusiastic and friendly French player named David
d'Armond aka "Gargouille". Check out his homepage for further details about

This match is open to all players under 1800 in rating. Please use the
rating from your cc or Over-the-board organisation to judge whether or not
you should rightfully join. The "expert" has a 2300 Chessworld rating, and
the idea is to provide a 500 point gap between the expert and the team
playing against.

It is free to join in the discussions and vote your favoured move. The only
requirements being rating, and also no computer analysis allowed to be
presented on the forums. Ideally please do not use engine analysis.
Obviously this is an un-enforceable request, but the idea of the match is
education and fun.

These requirements will hopefully encourage much more participation and
discussion among weaker players, who are often intimidated by length
analysis which has been apparent from the matches against GM's, IM's.
Computer analysis has typically dominated Rest of world matches since
Kasparov vs Rest of world a few years back, but this match takes a unique
angle by restricting participation by rating.

Already there are a large number of intuitive and friendly discussions on
move 1 as to whether or not to play d5 or Nf6 against Davids 1.d4. It looks
to be an interesting match.

To join it simply register and login at and following the
Play! menu to World team games. Click on Gargouille, then click Join world
team button.

Best wishes
Tryfon Gavriel
