I have just been bought my very first chess set.
I have absolutely no idea of how to play, but I am reading up on it.

Does anyone know of a website that can help me kick off with the game.

Thanks

Steve

There are so many web sites devoted to chess. I just now typed "Chess
+ Tutorial" (without quotes) into a Google search, and several sites
with basic tutorials came up. Here's the first one, which looked
pretty interesting:

http://www.princeton.edu/~jedwards/cif/intro.html

This was another page listed, and it contains many links to other
online tutorials, etc.:

http://www.chessopolis.com/tutorials.htm

Here's the original Google result page that contained both of the
links above:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Chess%20+%20Tutorial

Since I didn't learn chess from online tutorials, and I don't have
time at the moment to look closely at these, I can't recommend any
specific pages that I think would be particularly good, but I'm sure
you'll be able to find something that works for you.

Also...even as a very beginner, if you have a friend who would be
willing to help you by playing "teaching games" with you, offering
comments along the way, this is a wonderful way to learn. Finally,
there are computer chess programs, like the "Chessmaster" series,
with decent tutorials included.

Welcome to a lovely game! :-)

Thanks.
I may have to give up gainful employment for this game.
Chess set is sat there looking at me ............ if I could only find the
time!
