Default Greg Shahade: Future World Champion?

Wasn't the purpose of the Samford Fellowship to encourage Americans to
compete for the world championship?

Let's see: 1999 winner Greg Shahade has one GM norm, earned in 2001. I'm
sure he'll be picking up the pace considerably in the next few years.

Has ANY American-born winner of this fellowship ever competed for the world
title? (Kamsky doesn't count because he was well on the way before he ever
set foot in this country).
