Default Connections between Nikkin and Natrol

A big controversy in chess centers on the fact that former President
of the USCF hired Bill Hall to become the new USCF Executive Director
at just about the same time that Beatriz Marinello endorsed Natrol as
a "brainspeed" drug which will improve chess playing ability. Bill
Hall worked for Nikkin before he was hired by the USCF. However, both
Bill Hall and Beatriz Marinello have denied that Bill Hall had
anything to do with the Natrol Deal, for which Beatriz Marinello
received a payment of $5,000.

However, there is a connection between Nikkin and Natrol. The products
are similar and they appeal to similar buyers. A Google search reveals
that Nikkin and Natrol are mentioned together on 1,600 web pages.
Usually they are featured by companies that sell both products.

Nikkin and Natrol were bioth developed by the same man, Dr. Charles
Cochran. Here is what one website says about him.

"[Dr. Charles Cochran] has created several nutritional formulas that
are presently being sold throughout North America, Europe, and
Australia. These formulas include most of Natrol Corporations joint
health products and Nikken's (MLM company) digestion and
detoxification formulas. He brings the products, resources and
expertise to NBPI."

Thus, we have established that there is a connection between Natrol
and Nikkin. It cannot be a coincidence that Bill Hall and the Natrol
deal arrived on the USCF's doorstep at the same time.

It is time for Beatriz Marinello and Bill Hall to come clean on how
the USCF got involved in the Natrol Deal.

Sam, just when I was thinking you were permanently lost as a useful
gadfly, you post something quite lucid and well-researched - your bias
is evident, but that is fine.

I agree with you - and also wonder what Dr. Cochran's qualifications
are. Often such doctors are degree mill naturopaths or some such. I
certainly would hope that is not the case here, as that would, if such
a thing were possible, make the Natrol deal look even worse than the
trainwreck it was.

I found Dr. Cochran's CV on-line. It appears he is a legitimate
chiropractor; in fairness I must mention that I think chiropractic is a
pseudo-scientific approach to the practice of medicine. But he appears
to be a Palmer grad, which if you are going to be a DC, is the best of
the bunch....

However, DCs often proclaim themselves the gurus of "drugless therapy"
and then sell snake oils under the guise of "natural products," which
of course is a ploy designed to trick the gullible, again, in my
opinion (someone once derided this obsession with all things "natural"
being good by saying,"Well, sphyllis is natural too!").

Another connection that springs to mind and that LP will surely note,
is that Dr. Press, the man responsible for at least a good part of this
drug-testing in chess nonsense, was a DC.

Coca Cola and Pepsi are sold in most of the same stores, and buy high
fructose corn syrup from some of the same sources. That doesn't mean
there is a "connection" between them. They are competing and somewhat
antagonistic companies. As are Natrol and Nikken.

However, it's quite true that someone who worked for Coke and someone
who worked for Pepsi might hold similar views on a question about
selling sodas in school vending machines.

Yes, it rather reminds me of a 1960s John Wayne movie where he goes
out and shoots up all the "druggies," and then at the end of the film,
when asked what he is going to do next, says, "Get a drink."

In Terry Southern's book Candy, a homeless character liked to go to the
men's room at the local bus station and eat urine soaked bread. All urinals
have Sam Sloan's name on them and Sam has recently lived in a homeless
shelter. It cannot be a coincidence. Sam must be eating urine soaked bread.
