Default Sam Sloan Definitive Wikipedia Biography of James Eade

James Eade
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

James Eade is a chess master, chess politician, chess tournament
organizer and chess book publisher. He was born in 1957. He is best
known for his book "Chess for Dummies" which is one of the best
selling chess books of all time. He was a member of the Policy Board
of the United States Chess Federation from 1996 to 1999. He has served
as American Zone President of FIDE, the World Chess Federation.

As a player, he is a solid master, rated 2320 by FIDE. Politically, he
is a controversial person, primarily because he is a close friend and
political ally of Tom Dorsch who is one of the most contentious and
confrontational persons in chess. In truth, Eade voted against Dorsch
as often as he voted with Dorsch when they both served on the Policy
Board, but on the big issues he always backed his friend Dorsch. Eade
is also controversial because of his support for drug testing in
chess.

Eade is known for his rivalry with Mike Goodall, who is the biggest
chess organizer in the San Francisco Bay Area. For example, Eade got
himself appointed as chess director of the San Francisco Mechanics
Institute, even though he did not want the job, just to block Mike
Goodall, who would otherwise have gotten the job. Eade is also known
for his attacks on Bill Goichberg, who is America's and probably the
world's biggest chess organizer. In addition, Eade frequently attacks
Yasser Seirawan, who is America's most popular chess grandmaster. Eade
is a frequent poster to the Usenet group rec.games.chess.politics,
where he is fond of attacking his former employee Sam Sloan as well as
Don Schultz and Timothy Hanke.

Eade is a millionaire and is one of the wealthiest personalities in
chess. He lives in the Eade Mansion in Menlo Park, California. There
is great debate over where he got his money from. Eade claims that he
arrived in California with only $500, which he got from selling his
car. It has not hurt that Eade married the Chief Financial Officer of
Novell Computers, the computer software developer.

Eade has devoted his millions to publishing chess books. His company
is Hypermodern Press. He has also worked on developing chess software,
although he has apparently not published anything.
